The Intelligence Unit, led by Sgt. Phil Tarpey, includes Gang Intelligence as well. As a Community Policing initiative, the Intelligence Unit will continue to analyze and distribute information related to crime prevention and security, while supplimenting it's role to include compiling of crime data, including hate crimes, security data and forecasting immediate and future needs of the Springfield Police Department and the City of Springfield.

Using the strength of the community's observations, citizen and law enforcement reports, and crime analysis data, the Intelligence Unit will gather the pieces of information together, analyze it, disseminate it, and use it to enhance the resolutions of crimes, keep the community safe, and prepare for the future.

Community involvement is a pivotal part of the Intelligence Unit initiative. If someone witnesses a crime, knows of an illegal activity, or observes some suspicious doings, they can call the Intelligence Unit Hotline at: 413.750-2889 and leave a message or ask to have an officer return their call. In addition, Sgt. Phil Tarpey welcomes any e-mail regarding questions or information on or for the Intelligence Unit.
