The Traffic Bureau supervisor is Sgt. Neil Maloney. Should you have any questions, please call 787-6333.

The duties of the Traffic Bureau are to investigate traffic accidents, enforce traffic laws and parking violations. If you have any questions, please write or call the Traffic Bureau.

Winter Parking Rules:
No parking on the Even side of the Street: 7PM-7AM
No parking on the Odd side of the Street: 9AM-4PM
Parking on Either Side of the Street:
4PM-7PM
7AM-9AM

Enforcement is accomplished through the use of radar (using cruiser and hand held units), Lidar, and motorcycles. Officers assigned to the Traffic Bureau provide safe escort of funeral processions through the city of Springfield, assist with ceremonial details, and community functions such as parades, road races, and special events.

When is an Accident Report taken?
Springfield Police will respond to all serious motor vehicle accidents. In most cases officers will respond and take a report where, in the officer's opinion, the damage is over $1000 or injuries are involved. The Police Report taken by the officer can be obtained one of two way; from the Records Bureau or online via the Crash Reports.

Operators will be instructed to fill-out a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report that will be submitted to the Town or City the accidents occurs, the Insurance Company, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Forms are available at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, local Police Department, or can be downloaded.

Accidents that, in the officer's opinion, are under $1000 and there are no injuries. Operators should make out Commonwealth of Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report that will be submitted to the Town or City the accidents occurs, the Insurance Company, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Parking Ban
The parking ban is instituted by the Department of Public Works. Information on the parking ban can be obtained from the Police Department, The Department of Public Works, and the news media. In the instance of severe winter the snow ban may be in effect for the entire winter as it was for the 2002/2003 winter. Motor vehicles that violate the parking ban will be subject to a $15.00 parking ticket and the possibility of the motor vehicle being towed.
